Total Awards
National Achievement Scholarship is given to 800 students yearly, which is drastically more than the average for all College Scholarships and Grants. The total award amount given each year is $1,000,000, which is $995,000 better than the average for all College Scholarships and Grants.



Criteria Applicant must be a Black American. PSAT/NMSQT exam and indication on the test answer sheet that he or she wishes to compete for the Achievement Scholarship are required. Selection is based upon abilities, skills, accomplishment, and potential for success in rigorous college studies and beyond. About 16,000 high-scoring participants are designated Semifinalists and have an opportunity to continue in the competition for awards.
