2014 Richard C. Maguire Scholarship


Eligibility rules and general information:

1. The Richard C. Maguire Scholarship is awarded annually to a student working on a
Master’s degree or Doctorate in history, such as, US, world, military, or religion, or a
related field, such as archaeology or museum studies.

2. The applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America. Proof of
citizenship is required.

3. The applicant must be accepted into an accredited college or university
postgraduate course of study in history or a related field. The applicant must
intend to complete and earn a Master’s degree or Doctorate.



4. A request for an application is to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Requests received without a self-addressed, stamped envelope will not be honored.

5. Grants will be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis without regard
to age, sex, race, religion or affiliation.

6. Scholarship funds will be paid by check made out to the recipient and to the college
or university of the winner’s choice upon proof of enrollment and acceptance.

7. The award is for one year only. The 2014 scholarship amount is $1,000.00. The
Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society reserves the right to not make an award in the
event that no applicants are determined to be eligible.

8. The applicant must obtain two letters of endorsement. Each copy of the
endorsement form is to be given to an instructor or person who has worked with the
applicant and knows the applicant well enough to complete the endorsement form. The
forms are to be mailed directly to the scholarship committee by the endorser. They
must not be mailed by the applicant or with the application. Endorsement forms must
be postmarked no later than May 1, 2014.
